Izu Peninsula Mountains & Forests
A fun adventure to one of the most accessible nature areas outside of Tokyo
Route Distance: 380km
Route Summary
Starting in Tokyo, our first stop outside of the city will be at Ebina PA for breakfast! This is about a 45 min drive from the center of the city and a great place to fuel up before the journey ahead of you!
From Ebina PAÂ you will head 1 hour and 45 minutes directly to your first sightseeing spot of the trip! Joren Falls . This is a wonderful place to stop for a break. There is plenty of free parking that is just a 10 min walk down to a beautiful waterfall that feeds directly into the local wasabi farm! This spot is famous for their wasabi snacks and goods but even if you are not a huge fan of Japan's spicy green paste, the farm is beautiful and a great preview of what you'll be able to see in nature just before arriving in Kawazu.
30 minutes from Joren Falls is your next destination, a stop along the famous Kawazu River ! It is recommended to park at either end of the cherry blossom river walk. During cherry blossom season, many food and drink booths line the river. This is a perfect spot for a picnic under the sakura trees or down by the rivers edge.
After enjoying the day by the river, your place to stay for the night is just a 20 min drive away at the Kawazu Auto Camping Ground. This campground offers wide camp sites perfect for campervans, power units as an option, hikes down to the river, hotsprings and a family/pet friendly playground. We recommend reserving the space where you can set up a hammock. There is also a store where you can buy extra camping goods such as firewood, tables, bonfire pit, etc.
Once your time on the road comes to an end, you are 174 KM outside of your starting spot in Tokyo and have a 3 hour drive ahead of you. Make sure to stop at one of the many roadside service stations on the way back for some delicious local food and a quick rest! Enjoy your trip!
